GreatUniHack 24-Hour Community Connection App
Hackathon project built at GreatUniHack, the University of Manchester's annual hackathon. The idea came from a real problem: international Muslim students arriving in Manchester have no easy way to find local mosques, halal food, or community events.
Newcomers to a city — especially international students — lack a single entry point to locate religious and cultural community resources, often relying on word of mouth or fragmented social media posts.
Built a Flask app with a Python backend in 24 hours. Integrated a mosque map (location-based search for nearby mosques and halal restaurants), a community events listing pulling from live APIs, and an embedded full copy of the Quran for quick reference. Used HTML/CSS/JavaScript for the frontend.
Live demo presented to judges within the 24-hour window, combining the mosque map, event listings, and Quran integration into a single cohesive community tool.
